Direct Classroom Connections

Nearly 500 groups have registered over 2 years of BackyardBio - and we connected them with one another globally to share all they discovered with one another - fostering international classroom collaborations all built around a love of nature!

Feedback from participants

We were in front of a screen A LOT this year, and this was a great way to get them outside, experience nature, and sharing what they found. Thank you for all of the work that went into organizing this program. It is TRULY appreciated!

The children were so engaged about the project that they went home and told their families, and those siblings approached their teachers asking if they could participate.

I definitely had some snap happy kids, loose in their neighborhoods! I was amazing by some of the amazing shots! Our connection with India was amazing! Thanks so much!

What a wild ride! We're having so much fun as a group of four classrooms that we decided to take #BackyardBio two weeks into June, and it's inspired me to connect with other friends and family to show my students into their gardens around the world. My students didn't just learn about biodiversity, either. We talked about time zones, distances, geography, temperatures, weather, and even what people eat!

As a completely virtual class, some of my students have only seen nature through a window this year, and so it's been incredible to watch as they connect and "see" more of the outside world.

I have personally started using Seek and iNaturalist in tandem and I love recognizing more of my local flora! I am proud to be able to participate in citizen science. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation!

For some of my students who don't engage in much else, this was their favourite thing to do. It was also a manageable thing to do virtually, as it allowed me to encourage my students to get outside!

I had one student that made 62 observations. In a year that was so challenging it was so worth participating just seeing the enthusiasm of this one student.

BackyardBio est un événement présenté par Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants
